"I have two questions for those with some experience, related to routing of the chain on a marauder. With Quebec roads being in rough shape in general, I'm trying to prevent too much chain flop/slap without adding too much resistance."

"Well, today I decided if I don't start I can never finish. I am pleased with the progress I made.
My welds belong on the wall of shame but I think they are strong. I did grind them out a few times and reweld them and also welded up the holes I blew in the tube a couple times."

"Hi. I've attached photos of my bike.  I built it several years ago as part of my A level tech project, but have only just got round to sending it to your guys! There's plenty more of the build process at https://picasaweb.google.com/117393189104529565918/Bike

The bike comes in at almost 3 meters long, has a liquid-filled top-tube and a Schwinn stingray rear wheel, fitted with 3-speed hub gear, controlled by a suicide shift (there's also a suicide bell, just because).

And just to top it off, the electrics run off rechargeable batteries inside the fender, with front and rear (glowing exhaust style) lights each controlled by a switch behind the saddle.

"You and Kat were the inspiration for me giving this bike building a go. The frame is made from pieces of 11 recycled bike frames, the forks are five BMX forks cut and welded together. Cheers Rob."

"Thanks for the suggestions. I purchased the bike e in 2001. I did not think about the aluminum frame when posted. The bolt on idea is great. The tricruzer is what I had in mind, but I wanted to keep the same steering mechanism. I may switch gears and just build something from my mountain bike so I can weld."

Idea for electric power with pedal generator--feedback requested.

"Hi all, it's been a while since I posted. Been busy but I check in and lurk often. Lots of great projects and ideas here.

My last big idea if you remember, was the Twin Fox...sort of a double-vision Street Fox with two seats, side by side, and four wheels. So far it's remained just an idea, but one that keeps smoldering on the back burner."

Vigilante Inferno by Tim - UK

"Hi folks!

Here is a picture of me riding the Vigilante I completed last year for the Lord Mayor of London's Skyride, that I took part in this weekend. It was like having a bad itch, trying to keep it under wraps for so long, but what a blast riding it through the streets of London!

The pic is me riding along Embankment along the side of the river Thames, after passing Buckingham palace and riding down The Mall! I felt like the king of the road! On this bike I think I was! The plans and instruction were great, and it was a blast to build and ride. I only had 4 spokes on the back, and decided the same on the front would be cool to!

I also added 5 speeds on the back and some small changes to the bars, and added a pivoting sissy bar friction brake that smells of burnt rubber when you use it, and at higher speeds actually smokes! How cool is that? To say I am happy with the bike, and had the best time ever would be an understatement! A grin from ear to ear that has been permanently fixed since the ride!  All the very best, Tim Heyes"

Junk bikes get new life - AtomicZombie builders gallery

"I picked a pair of old Schwinn OCC StingRay bikes from a the country, they were both in extremely bad condition. The chains were rusted solid and had to be cut off with a side grinder.

Everything on the bikes had to be sanded or wire brushed. The original frame configuration was a 20" wheel on the rear and a 24" wheel on the front. I extended and lowered the rear drop outs, the front forks, and the kickstand in order to accommodate 26" wheels on the front and the back. I also had to recess the inside of the front forks to allow enough room for the 36v geared front wheel motor that I added. I moved the foot peg from the front forks to a rear location.

I built and welded on the front wheel disc brake mounting bracket and the rear rack. I mounted the 36v lithium battery to the front of the down tube. I also cut and leaned the seat post back a few inches and gave the bike the blacked out treatment.

So after 2 days effort my son now has a KoolKat recumbent.

Such an easy build should be recommend as the starting pint for everyone, as it is very pleasing to get such a good result so quickly.
